Newport Beach, CA – Despite voting against the American Rescue Plan, Michelle Steel has not stopped from pretending its successes are her accomplishments. Earlier this week, Steel introduced legislation to expand access to childcare as the economy recovers from the pandemic. How would she pay for it? With funds from the American Rescue Plan, which she voted against before President Biden signed it into law in March.
Unfortunately, this staggering hypocrisy doesn’t come as a surprise. Steel took credit for rental assistance programs and cosponsored the Restaurant Revitalization Fund; yet she voted against both when they were part of the American Rescue Plan. Michelle Steel continually attacks Democrats for creating programs that benefit Orange County families, but after they prove successful, she touts these policies as her own victories.
Congressman Harley Rouda released the following statement reacting to the latest hypocrisy:
“When Orange County needed a Representative to help them get out of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, my opponent was MIA. Michelle Steel voted against putting stimulus checks into wallets, against funds to reopen schools, against money to stimulate the local economy, and against funding a vaccination program. It’s bad enough to vote against bills that help constituents; but to lie and take credit for legislation she voted against, is disqualifying.”
California’s 48th district is poised to be the most critical battleground of 2022.
As the only Democrat proven capable of flipping this seat, Harley Rouda is already in a strong position to win.
