smoke and mirrors from Rohrabacher

Southern California is known for its thriving economy, robust communities, and dynamic landscape. We enjoy access to incredible arts and entertainment, stunning natural beauty, talented sports teams, STEAM innovation, and world-class colleges and universities, but, the growth in the region has made affordable housing difficult to come by.

This week, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher tried to distract us from the news of the Russia indictment and his celebrity appearance on Showtime with some smoke and mirrors messaging about housing.

He was so bold as to claim: "I will continue to advocate home ownership. For most Americans, this is the best way to build wealth for their families." Perhaps he meant he'll "advocate for most Americans," because he is certainly no advocate for LGBTQ+ Americans buying homes.

Remember just two months ago when Rep. Rohrabacher said:

"Every homeowner should be able to make a decision not to sell their home to someone (if) they don't agree with their lifestyle...We've drawn a line on racism, but I don't think we should extend that line, a homeowner should not be required to be in business with someone they think is doing something that is immoral."

I do.

Unlike Rohrabacher, Harley knows LGBTQ Americans lack basic legal protections in states across the country. The patchwork nature of current laws leaves millions of people subject to uncertainty and discrimination that impacts their safety, family, and livelihoods.

Everyone should have a fair chance to earn a living and provide a home for their family without fear of harassment or discrimination.

That's why he – and 70 percent of Americans – support the Equality Act calling for non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.

The Equality Act will help combat discriminatory practices endorsed by people like Rep. Dana Rohrabacher. If we're going to make progress, we need to dump Dana and hire Harley.
