What's at stake with Kavanaugh

Choosing a Supreme Court nominee should be a painstaking process. The president should select an experienced and thoughtful jurist who shares our values of protecting freedom and standing by our Constitution.

I say "should" because President Trump has declined to do this — he nominated Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

This extremist pick couldn't come at a worse time.

Children are being separated from their families, working families are facing increasing attacks and losing key protections, and landmark rulings like Roe v. Wade could be overturned.

Kavanaugh even believes that a president should have immunity from criminal investigation. A convenient selection in the midst of an investigation.

Justice Kennedy, whose retirement created the vacancy, (while imperfect) often cast votes in favor of equality and justice. Unfortunately, Brett Kavanaugh holds the opposite view. At this crucial time, he'll curtail reproductive rights, slash protections for hardworking families, and won't serve as a check against this dangerous administration.

This isn't who we are.

We deserve a common-sense nominee for the Supreme Court who will uphold the Constitution in this time of crisis. For now, our best option to fight back in November.

We need to take back Congress, and we can do it with your help. Chip in right now.
