HARLEY ROUDA LINES UP SUPPORT FROM ORG. REPRESENTING WORKING PEOPLE IN CA-48 BID

In Endorsing Rouda, Painters and Allied Trades District Council 36 Say “He’ll Be a Champion for Working People”

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — One day after receiving the support of Dr. Gary LeFebvre, the President of the Laguna Beach Democratic Club*, today businessman and candidate for California’s 48th Congressional District seat Harley Rouda locked down a high-powered endorsement from the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 36, an influential affiliate of the Building and Construction Trades.

In announcing their endorsement of Rouda for Congress, Robert Smith, Political Director for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 36 released the following statement:

“I met with Harley Rouda and believe he’ll be a true champion for working people. He supports livable wages, protections for workers’ rights and he understands that the debate about climate change is over and that it’s critical we address this issue head on. Harley also recognizes that the Affordable Care Act should be protected and enhanced, because while it might not be perfect, it was nonetheless groundbreaking and extended access and healthcare coverage to millions of Americans who otherwise wouldn’t have had it. Furthermore, Harley is a steadfast supporter of protecting Medicare and Social Security and keeping the promises made to our seniors. For far too long, Orange County’s 48th District has been represented by an extremist. We are proud to endorse Harley Rouda for Congress because we know he’ll bring common sense and progress to Washington for workers and all the people of the 48th District.” Today’s announcement comes on the heels of news last week that Rouda hauled in a sizable $100,000 in independent donations in a mere 12 days; garnered endorsements from former Orange County Democratic Party Chair Frank Barbaro, former California Attorney General Bill Lockyer, Laguna Beach Democratic Club President Dr. Gary LeFebvre* and Laguna Beach Mayor Toni Iseman; and also rolled out his first online video, titled “Clean House.” Additionally, Rouda unveiled his initial agenda items for what he plans to address in Washington.

Just last week, Rouda released his first online video, titled, “Clean House,” highlighting the stark contrast between incumbent Congressman Dana Rohrabacher versus Rouda’s people-powered, neighborhood-driven campaign.

Rouda announced his campaign less than three weeks ago. Recently, he spoke to a crowd of over 600 grassroots activists at an event organized by local Democratic Clubs and the Orange County Democratic Party. Harley Rouda is a successful businessman who has created several successful companies, and now serves on the board of numerous companies in a variety of industries. Rouda received an MBA from The Ohio State University, and a J.D. from Capital University Law School. He lives in Laguna Beach, with his wife Kaira Rouda, a bestselling author. They have four children.

Active in numerous charities and civic organizations over the years, Harley has been involved in fighting homelessness and domestic violence; active with Human Rights Watch; supporting education for the disadvantaged as well as supporting access to higher education; saving military jobs; and working with civic organizations to drive economic development.

The 48th Congressional District is considered a ripe pickup opportunity for Democrats, as Hillary Clinton won the district by 2%. The district is seen as all the more winnable given that Rohrabacher is an unabashed supporter of Russia’s Putin, and is one of Donald Trump’s closest allies in Congress. The 48th Congressional district also had one of the largest swings of any Congressional district in the country from 2012 to 2016, with more than 13 percentage points at the presidential level shifting to Democratic.
