California’s Former Attorney General, Former State Treasurer, Former Senate President pro Tempore Bill Lockyer Backs Rouda for Congress
LAGUNA BEACH, CA — Just days after receiving early support from Laguna Beach Mayor Toni Iseman, today businessman Harley Rouda picked up a high-powered endorsement from Bill Lockyer, a California icon who previously served as the state’s Attorney General, State Treasurer and State Senate President pro Tempore.
In announcing his endorsement of Harley Rouda‘s campaign for California’s 48th Congressional District, former Attorney General Bill Lockyer released the following statement:
“We need more common sense, problem-solving leaders in Washington, and I believe Harley Rouda embodies these qualities and more. His wide-ranging background in business combined with his vision for a Congress that works to find solutions to key issues, like tackling climate change, creating more good paying middle class jobs, advancing equality and improving peoples’ quality of life represents exactly what we need more of from our representatives in the House of Representatives. For these reasons I’m pleased to give Harley Roudamy endorsement of his campaign for Congress.”
Rouda announced his campaign one week ago today. This past weekend, he spoke to a crowd of over 600 grassroots activists at an event organized by local Democratic Clubs and the Orange County Democratic Party. Harley Rouda is a successful businessman who created the firm Real Living, and now serves on the board or as an advisor of firms in real estate, retail, and a variety of industries. Rouda received an MBA from The Ohio State University, and a J.D. from Capital University Law School. He lives in Laguna Beach, with his wife Kaira Rouda, a bestselling author. They have four children.
Active in numerous charities and civic organizations over the years, Harley has been involved in fighting homelessness and domestic violence; active with Human Rights Watch; supporting education for the disadvantaged as well as supporting access to higher education; saving military jobs; and working with civic organizations to drive economic development.
The 48th Congressional District is considered a ripe pickup opportunity for Democrats, as Hillary Clinton won the district by 2%. The district is seen as all the more winnable given that Rohrabacher is one of Donald Trump’s closest allies in Congress. The 48th Congressional district also had one of the largest swings of any Congressional district in the country from 2012 to 2016, with more than 13 percentage points at the presidential level shifting to Democratic.
